Schuyler Wrestling

Schuyler ended up with 2 3rd place finishers and a state champion. Overal in my opinion Schuyler wrestled good. I know very little about David Diaz but from what I have seen he will be a competitor. He got a late start to the season but exceled in the short time he wrestled. Escardo Acosta wrestled very well. I got the pleasure of watching both his quarterfinals match and semi finals match. Both matches were very close. Escardo is a guy to watch in the coming years. The next wrestler was Dusty Stodola. Dusty wrestled 4 good matches and did what everyone expected him to do becoming a 3 time state champion. Everyone was aiming at knocking off Dusty and he had enough to overcome everyone he wrestled. I want to thank Dusty for what he has done for Schuyler wrestling and hope that he will continue to help support the team in the future. I want to wish him good luck in his future adventures. Next is Klay Kasik. He along with a gentleman I will be talking about later were wrestling their best at the end of the year. This is what a coach strives for in all his wrestlers. Klay lost a heartbreaking match that was basically decided by a coin flip. No points were scored in the match as neither wrestler got a takedown neither wrestler could also get out of the bottom. A couple times Klay almost turned the eventual state champion. I would love to see a rule change on this and believe no match should ever end scoreless. Klay will be an eventual state champion you can count on that. John Svoboda was our next state qualifier. John had a hilatious bracket losing to the #1 rated wrestler going into state. John made a couple mistakes in this match by trying to force a couple throws that were not quite there. You can not fault John for being aggressive. These two throws were the difference in the match. John then had another tough break having to beat another great wrestler to make it to the medal round. John is a great wrestler and will be back on top you can count on that. John will be in contention next year for a state title. Now for the guy that in my opinion was arugably the most impressive of all Schuyler wrestlers Easton Nelson. Easton ran into a undefeated senior in his quarterfinals match. Easton gave the guy a run for his money and was in on some great shots muliple times. Easton then came back and was ahead in his match to make it into the medal round. He about escaped only to be pinned in the 3/4 nelson seconds later. Easton wrestled a great tournament and will no doubt be a force to be reckoned with in the future.

Overal Schuyler as a team has a lot to look forward to. Losing Dusty will hurt this team no doubt but as the kids mature alittle and improve Schuyler will no doubt be a team to watch out for. It is not out of the realm of possibilites for Schuyler to have 3-4 state champions next year. I could also see another 2 placers. I wish the boys luck and hope they strive to improve. As many have said State champions are made during the off season.
